The rear extension is faced with black masonry and vertical solider course banding. A light, up and over roof light, divides the extension into two distinctive elements. This element brings natural daylight into the heart of the internal space and creates a feature axis through the ground floor that links the main entrance.

A curved corner to the rear extension softens the stepping and replicates the geometry of the existing first floor bay windows. A curved glass window seat provides outlook into the garden and the newly formed terrace.

External steps with integrated planters address the change in level across the site and enhance the connection between the building and existing garden.

Internally, the ground floor is configured to create a large open plan living, dining, kitchen space which overlooks the garden.

The existing internal staircase is reconfigured to create a focal point upon entry which links all levels, through an atrium like experience. Additional bedroom and bathroom accommodation is added by virtue of a sensitive additional storey above the existing side garage.

At loft level, the existing space is rationalised to create a large bedroom and en-suite.

Green roofs on the rear extension create a visually pleasing outlook from first floor and help to attenuate surface water run-off.
